Bio

Phil Brown is University Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Health Sciences at Northeastern University, where he directs the Social Science Environmental Health Research Institute. He is the author of _No Safe Place: Toxic Waste, Leukemia, and Community Action_, and _Toxic Exposures: Contested Illnesses and the Environmental Health Movement_, and co-editor of _Social Movements in Health_, and _Contested Illnesses: Citizens, Science and Health Social Movement_s. His research currently focuses on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). He directs an NIEHS T32 training program, “Transdisciplinary Training at the Intersection of Environmental Health and Social Science.” He co-directs the Community Engagement Core of Northeastern’s Superfund Research Program.
