EDGI Forms Data Preservation Coalition

In November 2024, EDGI formed the Public Environmental Data Partners, a coalition committed to preserving and improving access to federal data. In advance of the second Trump administration, as groups began preparing for an unprecedented purging of public environmental information, EDGI saw a need to harness collective energy and coordinate across data preservation efforts. EDGI invited organizations to work together to protect federal environmental and climate data and used EDGI’s own horizontal leadership format as a model for the new network. The result was the Public Environmental Data Partners (PEDP).

Today, PEDP is led by EDGI, Open Environmental Data Project, Environmental Policy Innovation Center, in partnership with a number of other organizations and individuals. In addition to data preservation, PEDP has expanded its efforts to include the development of analytic public data tools as well as public data advocacy.
