EDGI’s Public Comment on EPA’s Draft Strategic Plan for 2022-2026

On Friday, November 12, 2021, the Environmental Data & Governance Initiative’s (EDGI’s) Website Monitoring Team submitted a public comment to the Environmental Protection Agency on their 2022-2026 strategic plan, which sets the agency’s priorities for the next four years.

EDGI’s Website Monitoring Team works at the intersection of information and environmental policies, tracking changes to thousands of federal web pages in order to assess shifts in public access to or federal presentation of environmental science and policy information.

The Website Monitoring Team recommends that the final strategic plan:

  • Incorporate clear and actionable steps toward improving its website information to facilitate public learning and participation in environmental governance;
  • Go beyond transparency to hold accessibility as a co-equal guiding principle;
  • Make building the general public’s environmental and climate literacy a top agency objective;
  • Expand its stakeholder feedback research to include feedback regarding web resource content as well as design, with a specific focus on content accessibility and approachability.
