Public Comment Workshop for EPA’s Proposal to Weaken Chemical Disaster Prevention

Workshop Title: Sharing your voice: Effective Public Comment Writing for EPA’s proposal to Weaken Chemical Disaster Prevention Requirements

Overview
Join the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative (EDGI) for a workshop on writing effective public comments on EPA’s proposed rule to weaken the Risk Management Program (RMP). The proposed rule eliminates several key reporting requirements, such as planning requirements for natural hazards like hurricanes and floods, backup power sources for monitoring equipment, and several community notification requirements. This proposed rule puts workers and frontline communities at risk.

We all have the opportunity to make our voices heard by submitting a public comment on this proposed rule. Whether this is your first time hearing about public comments or you’re looking to understand more about the RMP and proposed changes in this rule, this workshop is open to you! In this session we will:

  1. Present and explain key components of the proposed rule
  2. Share tools and tips for writing an effective public comment
  3. Answer any questions you may have about the proposed rule specifically or about public comments generally
